Journal Entry: Mon Jan 1, 2018, 11:00 PM
So the first day of the New Year is wrapping up, and I thought I'd write some of my thoughts on the year that just finished as well as the year to come.
2017 is the year I got back into art.
I started to fall out of drawing near the end of my college years and after graduation. Once I graduated, I started working a lot more, and there was no longer college lectures to spend time doodling in my notebook. So for a few years, I barely drew at all while I grew more frustrated with work. So (due to a lot of egging on by my fiance) for 2017 I quit my job and lived on savings. Because the hours poured into my job was gone, my resolution for 2017 was to do one digital drawing a day. I needed a challenge and consistency to get back to where I was and to further improve. And I was doing really well! Even though I'd miss a day here and there, I'd always catch up. I even caught up after a two week trip to Europe over the summer in which I basically wasn't able to draw at all.
But in September, I started working again. I moved back to the area where I used to live and was offered my old position back, and I just couldn't find a real reason to say no. It was just the responsible thing to do. I tried, I really did, but I fell so far behind on my daily drawings that I couldn't catch up. Even just thinking about them was kind of stressful for me. So in the end, I didn't make it. Not counting unfinished drawings, I achieved 312 drawings out of my goal of 365 for 2017.
So what are the plans for 2018?
Obviously, I'm not going to try to do daily drawings again. I'm still working and I'm even planning on increasing my work hours in the coming months. So haha no way that's happening. I have two resolutions for the coming year and one kinda vague aspiration.
1. Do one full illustration (with background) per month
This is so I can focus on the quality of my artwork without having to deal with the sheer quantity of dailies that burdened me especially when I started working again.
2. Finish writing the common route for my bird visual novel
This one will be a challenge, but I think it's doable. My visual novel is a real passion project that has been pushed aside for far too long. I wanna see this thing fly, so I want to do at least this much this year.
3. Create an online presence as Archaos
Not really a resolution, more of a vague aspiration that I'm only putting in this journal so I'll remember to work on it.
Well, that's it! Organizing my thoughts here helped a lot.
Just in case anyone actually read this far, Laters!
